Posted by Angela Coyle | Monday, April 24, 2017

If you are looking to give your bathroom a luxurious makeover this spring, but your budget is a little worse for wear, you needn’t give up on your dream of an interior refresh just yet. Limited budgets don’t necessarily mean lack of creativity – on the contrary, they can lead to the most creative choices.

With a bit of imagination plus the right fittings and materials, you can give your bathroom personality and upscale its look without spending your entire salary.

The options are numerous from the classic white subway tiles which continue to be very popular through to materials like the Bevelled City Metro Tiles which can turn your bathroom into a masterpiece.

When it comes to materials, ceramic and porcelain tiles are particularly well suited for use in the bathroom – widely available in a wonderful range of colours and textures, they can have a matt or gloss finish, and imitate more expensive materials such as stone, marble, slate and even wood. Better yet, when you use tiles in your bathroom, you can experiment with mixing colours and patterns. For a truly co-ordinated design look for ranges which offer various shades and patterns of wall and floor tiles. Here’s some budget-friendly ideas for a lavish look:

Go big and go home

You can opt for a contemporary design and use large format tiles – the beauty of this décor choice is the bigger tiles give your bathroom a modern clean look with fewer grouting lines.

Add a splash of colour

Another way to refresh the look of your bathroom is choosing a bold colour for some of the tiles you use – gloss coloured tiles look superb in both traditional and modern settings, and combine well with both patterned tiles and plain or wood effect ones.

Find your marbles

Another traditionally luxurious choice in interior design is marble. And if you cannot afford the real thing, our marble effect tiles look just as good – both as floor and wall tiles, across the entire bathroom or just a small area, the porcelain (or ceramic) counterpart will give your bathroom the same stylish look for less.

Luxury set in stone

If you favour stone in your interior design, but natural stone doesn’t seem like an affordable option, or you’d prefer a material which is easier to use and not as cold, you can try stone or slate effect tiles instead – they can give your bathroom either a trendy or a rustic look, depending on your decoration preferences, while being significantly less expensive and easier to use as it requires less preparation.

Darker shade of slate effect tiles combined with white fluffy towels is sure to make your bathroom look like it belongs in a luxurious hotel! Stone effect floor tiles can also have lovely matching wall tiles and mosaic tiles, which can simultaneously add uniformity to your bathroom and jazz things up.

Let your tiles have the floor

Your budget doesn’t cover sprucing up your whole bathroom? Try making a strong statement by keeping the makeover to your floor instead – it means you are working with smaller surface area than the walls, and you can still make a great impact. Geometric and patterned tiles are timeless classics, so they would make for both luxurious and sensible investment.

Splash out on the backsplash

The same technique can be used for virtually any style tiles: no need to splash out on redoing your entire bathroom to make it more luxurious – you can focus you budget on one feature tile statement. Whether you pick one wall, place the tiles behind your bath or shower, you can add drama to your bathroom at a much lower cost.

Pattern or mosaic tiles, for instance, are an ideal way to catch the eye while at the same time creating the illusion of extra space – you can even boost the glamour by pairing them with some copper or rose gold bathroom accessories!
