We’ve just got back from our annual trip to tile heaven – the international tile fair Cevisama held in Valencia, Spain. This huge exhibition is in its 39th year, and attracts around 100,000 professionals from over 150 different countries, with approximately 800 companies exhibiting thousands of tiles and related products.

As usual, we came away with a full order book, along with this list of top tile Cevisama tile trends for 2020.

Cevisama Tile Trends for 2020

Bold marble effect tiles

Marble effect tiles have always been one of our best sellers, adding elegance and style to any surface. At Cevisama this year, we saw bold colours (especially blue), striking metallic veins and large format sizes. Perfect for making a statement!

Distressed tiles/Wabi-Sabi

We spotted some beautiful tiles with a distressed look for added interest. One of the latest home trends is Wabi Sabi, a Japanese concept that can help you “create a happier home and feel more content, rather than always wishing for more”. Think of imperfections and natural characteristics for a natural, lived-in look.

Wood effect tiles

Wood effect is still a major tile trend this year, with so many styles and varieties available. A great alternative to timber, wood effect tiles are durable and stylish at a fraction of the cost. Along with shabby chic and country cottage looks, we also saw wood making its way onto walls, especially in hexagon format.

Kitchen tiles

It was refreshing to see a great choice of kitchen tiles at Cevisama this year, in a variety of shades, shapes and colours. Many of these would also be suitable for use in bathrooms too.

Cevisama tile trends – the latest shades

Yellow and blue

Many of the patterned tiles we saw were in the interesting combination of yellow and blue, adding a pop of colour on all the stands we visited. We particularly liked the duck egg and gold of these Pamesa tiles – the perfect colour scheme for spring!

Grey tiles

There’s no mistaking the fact that grey tiles are here to stay. This year, we saw hundreds of shades of grey, but also the inclusion of this popular colour into wood effect and decorative tiles. As one of our best selling colours, grey tiles are a great choice as they go with pretty much any other shade imaginable. One of the top Cevisama tile trends we saw was grey split face tiles, updating this classic look perfectly.

Pastel tile colours

Delicate pastels were on the majority of stalls we visited, with mint, yellow and baby pinks and blues being the most common hues. Use them together for a rainbow effect, tone them down with corresponding white tiles, or go more subtle with just a hint of colour, like these beautiful tiles from Fabresa.

Cevisama Tile Trends – Shapes

Hexagon tiles

This six-sided shape was a big hit last year, and hexagons were on display in all shapes and sizes. From plain to patterned, there’s no escaping the fact that the honeycomb look is still a firm favourite. We adore these hexagons with a linear design for an extra geometrical boost!

Rhombus-shaped tiles

If Hexagons are too much, then try a more subtle rhombus-shaped tile. These can be laid in a variety of ways and would be perfect for a feature wall or splashback. Ideal if you’re looking for a geometric look or to create a 3D effect.

Circle tile patterns

We were dotty about all the circular tiles doing the rounds! These give you the chance to really wow, with a wide variety of colours and styles available, which can be complemented or contrasted with your choice of grout.

Large-format tiles

Every year tiles are getting bigger and bigger, with 120cm x 120cm whoppers catching our eye this year. While these won’t work in smaller spaces, they are a great option for larger, open plan areas and cut down the number of grout lines required.

20mm tiles

We were smitten with the 20mm exterior tiles introduced last year, and at this year’s show, there were even more sizes available. A fantastic alternative to paving slabs, 20mm tiles are super strong, durable, have anti-slip surfaces and are versatile when it comes to installation. There can also be the option to continue your tiles from indoors to out.

15cm x 30cm tiles

Metro tiles are always a great choice, but we were big fans of the slightly deeper 15cm x 30cm tiles on display around the fair. These are great for creating a block of colour and you’ll need fewer tiles per square metre to achieve it.
