When it comes to bathroom colour ideas, choosing the right shade for your bathroom can invoke happy vibes and add warmth and impact. Whether you’re looking for a bold bathroom or a tranquil sanctuary, clever use of colour can help your room transform from bland to beautiful.

Being creative with colour is a great way to breathe life into your bathroom. The bathroom colour ideas you choose for walls and floors can also intertwine with daily life, reflecting your personality and affecting your energy and mood.

Add impact with bathroom colour ideas

From bright bold colours or soft pastels, there’s a rainbow of bathroom colour ideas to choose from. Opt for our favourite option and choose coloured tiles, add a splash of paint or use colour as an accent with accessories or artwork.

In interior design, you can use colour to:

Display emotion
Colour choice is a reflection of how you want others to feel when they enter the room, whether that’s cool and collective or vibrant and energetic.

Change your perception of space
Dark colours make a space feel cosy while light colours give the illusion of space.

Draw attention to an aspect of the room
Use feature tiles or a lick of paint to highlight an alcove, chimney or fireplace.

Create contrast
Pick two different colours, introduce wood or metal, or add in paint or tiles for a contrasting look.

Stand out from the crowd
Choosing colour is a great way to show your personality and create a room you really love, not just one you think potential buyers will like.

From bright metros to pretty patterns, our bathroom colour ideas will have you reaching for the colour chart to select some stunning shades.

Bold Bathroom Wall

We adore customer Natalie’s bathroom because it has a mix of everything. Gorgeous Victorian floor tiles, an inviting freestanding bath, wonderfully coordinated accessories and perfectly placed pot plants. But the most striking aspect is the beautiful blue feature wall. Painting the fireplace gives unity but the texture of the hearth still stands out. The choice of colour is spot on, a calming blue that makes the patterned floor tiles pop but works in harmony with the hint of blue running through them.

Metro tile bathroom colour ideas

Metro tiles are one of the best bathroom colour ideas as they add shine and texture to your bathroom, along with a splash of hue. The added bonus of metro tiles is the ability to lay them in a variety of ways, from traditional horizontal brick style, vertical, basket weave and herringbone to name a few. If you’re choosing metro tiles for your bathroom, don’t forget to decide which grout colour as well. Create a seamless look with a matching shade, or make the tiles stand out for a textured effect with a contrasting grout colour.

Pop of Pastel

Pastels are a chic and simple way to stand out with your interior design. Pink can brighten up spaces and bring a pleasing look when combined with cream or white for a sweet, Neapolitan ice-cream aesthetic.

Lighter shades really help to open the room out, and white or natural furnishings will also help to create a more airy effect. This customer project by Helen and Rhys is one of our favourites and we love the green plants added for that natural touch. Read more about their project here.

Colour splash contrast

White is a wonderful base next to an indulgently dark colour, as it makes your shade stand out while still giving a chic appearance. White is also a good complementary option if your room is on the smaller side, as it will give you the illusion of space rather than one colour closing the room in. And when it comes to laying tiles, choosing metros gives you the freedom to add even more interest by tiling in any direction and pattern that you choose, including herringbone or diagonally.

Multicoloured featured wall

One of our favourite kitchen and bathroom colour ideas is to make a splash by using multicoloured tiles in coordinating shades. Choose a selection of tiles from the same range, or opt for a single tile made up of various colours. This mix of blue and green tiles is ideal for a bathroom to recreate the look of the ocean, and the hexagon shape exudes energy and texture. Whether you design a feature wall or tile the entire floor or wall, you’re sure to make a statement.

Moroccan magic bathroom colour ideas

One of our favourite bathroom colour ideas is to introduce warm Moroccan vibes into your home. There is a wide range of Moorish-style brightly-coloured tiles in an array of gorgeous geometric shapes and patterns that will liven up any bathroom and allow you to design a truly unique space. You can carry the theme through with a matching splashback and floor, or use them sparingly to highlight an area. To brighten your room and soften the look, add white and neutral furnishings.

Terrazzo Tones

Terrazzo tiles originated over 500 years ago in Italy as a clever and environmentally friendly way to reuse leftover marble and glass by setting it in cement. They have had a modern makeover in the form of porcelain tiles, a much more inexpensive and durable option. Terrazzo tiles get a mention in our bathroom colour ideas as they can help you create a statement without it being too over the top. Terrazzo tiles are available in a wide range of colours, making designing your dream look even easier.

Matching wall and floor tiles

To create a really premium look in your bathroom, use the same tile range on your floor and wall. This technique can also help small spaces appear bigger, particularly if you’ve gone for a glossy tile in a lighter shade and ensure visual harmony.

If you aren’t keen on a completely matching look, choose a range that includes a feature tile to add some interest or texture, or select gloss for walls and matt for the floor.

Colourful Marble Effect

Marble effect tiles have always been one of the most popular bathroom colour ideas, but you can take them a stage further with colourful veining for an opulent look with lots of interest. For a truly bold statement, you can tile from wall to floor, or just add a hint of marble with a feature wall or tiled shower.

Dramatic Black

If you’re searching for a shade to instantly elevate your space, then black could be the hue for you. Don’t be afraid to use black in interior design. It might seem like a bold move, but used carefully, black can look modern and welcoming, as well as adding drama and sophistication to your home. It’s also a great backdrop for green plants, metallic accessories, and will pop vibrantly against white. Pair black paint or cabinets with monochrome or patterned tiles for a really luxurious effect, or opt for black gloss tiles for moodiness that has shine and texture.
