Fabulous Feature Wall
Customer Hamant has created a work of art in his living room in Birmingham by using split-face tiles to house his television and fireplace whilst keeping a homely feel. We caught up with him to find out more.
This project has centred around my living room. The current TV was mounted to the wall and the wires were recessed so that I had a clean look. However, after renovating the upstairs floors and adding two new rooms and a bathroom, we felt that as the house was in transition it was a good idea to think about our living room and potential ways we could improve the look whilst maintaining the cosy atmosphere in time for Christmas.
I had recently purchased a bigger TV for the living room. After installing it, even though it looked ok on the wall, I felt that it needed something more as it was lacking some finesse. Even though it was a talking point when people came into the room (as it was so large) I wanted to take the focus off the TV somewhat and decided to make a feature wall which also included an LED flame effect fire.
I had the idea in my head and the vision was there, the difficulty I had was explaining my concept to the family as they couldn’t see the end product, so I had to convince them that it would all turn out right! I had the 75” TV installed on the wall so that was the starting point and then purchased a 50” inch LED wall mounted Optiflame electric fire so I had two pieces of the jigsaw in place. The final piece centred on the tile type. I researched numerous finishes, including wallpaper, paint and vinyl art before finally settling on split face stone tiles as I felt these would achieve the perfect look I was after.
I researched all tile suppliers in my local area for split face stone tiles that matched the colour I was after to no avail. After casting my search further afield I came across Direct Tile Warehouse and pretty much straight away found the exact tile I was after which was the BrickLava Feature Wall Tile. The picture on the website of the tile was exactly what I had in my vision for the living room. What clinched it for me was the price which came in at £16.54 per sq metre, which was nearly three times cheaper than a similar tile which I had quoted at approximately £55 per square metre that was nowhere near as good a finish! The quality of the tile is phenomenal.
Whenever guests visit my house and they see they feature wall, the first thing they do is touch the tiles! I’ve even had people ask if they are real as they can't believe how good they look and are used to seeing tiles in bathrooms or on kitchen floors and not on a wall in the living room!
I purchased approximately 8 square metres of tiles to complete my project and the tile calculator on the website worked perfectly as I had exactly 2 tiles spare, which was cutting it fine but I was overjoyed that I had no wastage.
The service was great with no issues, a straightforward transaction, fast delivery and not a single tile broken in transport which was my biggest fear.
I am absolutely over the moon with my project, from conception to finish it has turned out exactly how I envisioned it. The compliments I received on the finished result make the work worthwhile, the tiles are just as much of a talking point now if not more than the TV and the LED fireplace.
I would 100% without fail recommend Direct Tile Warehouse. Brilliant service, the quality of the product is amazing and the cost was unbelievable. I just wish I lived closer to Wales so I could class you as my local tile supplier. I will definitely be ordering tiles again from you soon as I am currently in the process of creating an additional bathroom, which eventually will also need tiling. One happy customer here!
