My partner and I purchased a new build at the end of 2020. We didn’t like any of the flooring available to purchase from the developer Persimmon Homes so we moved into our home with concrete floors throughout the whole of the downstairs.
We wanted hardwearing, modern, large floor tiles that would match our kitchen and we needed it to flow nicely through the kitchen diner, pantry, utility room and downstairs WC.
It didn’t take us long to find exactly what we wanted from Direct Tile Warehouse for a great price. We opted for the Calacatta White Gloss Grey Vein floor tiles. These marble effect kitchen tiles were delivered on time via a trusted courier and upon arrival, we were so pleased with the quality, thickness and weight of the tiles.
Preparation for our marble effect kitchen
There was a lot of preparation involved in the floor as we also installed electric underfloor heating throughout these rooms. Firstly, we had to clean away all of the dust from the bare concrete, then prime the floor ready for insulation boards to be attached, and following the installation of the boards, we laid the heating mats.
The floor then needed levelling ready for the tiles. We applied a self-leveller on top of the heating mats which needed to dry for 24-48 hours. Then our tiles could be laid! We opted for a light grey grout to match the grey vein design.
We absolutely love the finished result! It was definitely worth all of the preparation and mess rather than settling for something from the developer that we weren’t keen on. The tiles are easy to clean, withstand a very naughty puppy, and have been put to the test when we have clumsily dropped some rather heavy items on it!
